A striking ebony sliding door gives this Upper East Side pied-à-terre unexpected flexibility, dividing the generous space of the living area to create an extra guest bedroom. The white oak millwork, and the rich walnut floor highlight and complete this signature element. Carefully designed contemporary details run throughout the apartment: black anodized aluminum cabinets in the kitchen, concealed hinges and original hardware for the doors, noble stones and translucent glass panes. Clean, suspended ceilings with trim-less recess lights and hidden, state of the art audio-video system are framed by cove lights that provide surface lighting to the minimalist walls, which end in a reveal, never reaching the floor. All elements combine to transform and visually enlarge the space.
